Research in Geophysics is carried out in the following areas at SUNY Stony Brook:

  1. Kinematics and Dynamics of Lithosphere
  2. Seismology: Earth Structure
  3. Large-Scale Mantle Dynamics
  4. Rock Mechanics
  5. Mineral Physics
The expertise of different research groups and the collegial atmosphere, this department has created an excellent environment in which to perform interdisciplinary research. Our research is integrating seismology, continental dynamics, deep mantle dynamics and mineral physics.
